-Sir Patrick Moore (Astronomer) R.I.P.-
(4th March 1923 – 9th December 2012) 

A fine almost definitive example of British eccentricity and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
I giant of his field, a glorious oddity, presenter of The Sky at Night (the longest running television programme with the same host in history), a Doctor Who fan and a good egg all-round. 
Wore a monocle superbly too I hasten to add.

Not a bad Xylophonist either.
